Daytona Beach, FL - Get ready race fans, Speed Week is heating up at Daytona International Speedway with more NASCAR and ARCA events. The Budweiser Shootout is the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with the DAYTONA 500 eight short days later.
Daytona Speed Week Schedule
Feb 09 - Budweiser Shootout
The Budweiser Shootout is made up of two segments: a short 20-lap segment, followed by a ten-minute intermission. After the intermission, the race concludes with a 50-lap segment.
Feb 09 - ARCA 200
The Daytona ARCA 200 is a ARCA RE/MAX Series race with 43 stock cars scheduled to participate.
Feb 10 - Daytona 500 Qualifying
Only the top two drivers (which will be the front row) will be locked in. The remaining spots will be determined by the top 14 finishers excluding the front row drivers in the two 150 mile Gatorade Duels, scheduled for Feb 14. The remaining spots will be determined by exemptions, the fastest speeds and a champions provisional if needed.
Feb 14 - Gatorade Duel at Daytona
The Gatorade Duel is the preliminary event to the Daytona 500. It consists of two 150-mile races, and serves as a qualifying race for the Daytona 500. The finishing order in the two 150-mile races, held on Thursday, determine the starting lineup for the Daytona 500 held on Sunday. Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is unique in NASCAR. Only the two front row starters are determined by Daytona 500 Qualifying.
Feb 15 - Chevy Silverado 250
The Chevy Silverado HD 250 is the first race of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Daytona International Speedway.
Feb 16 - Camping World 300
The Camping World 300 presented by Chevrolet is the first race of the NASCAR Nationwide Series season.
Feb 17 - DAYTONA 500
The 2008 Daytona 500 is the 50th annual running of “The Great American Race”, the Daytona 500. The race will celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the first race run in 1959, won by Lee Petty. To commemorate the event, the Harley J. Earl Trophy, which goes to the winner of the race, will be plated in gold instead of silver. In addition, the winning car will be placed on display for one year at the Daytona 500 Experience attraction just outside Turn Four. The race is scheduled to be the first Daytona 500 run using NASCAR’s Car of Tomorrow, which was introduced in 2007 and becomes standard as of 2008. Additionally, this will be the first official race under the new Sprint Cup banner as the telecommunications giant replaces NEXTEL as the series sponsor after their 2005 merger.
