Indialantic Beach

By Kirby Collins

Melbourne Beach, FL - I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than sharing a tuna and mahi dinner with my honey on Melbourne Beach. Throw in a couple of fruity frozen rum concoctions and now you’ve got something memorable.

Il Bellagio at City Place; Great Brick Oven Pizza, Salads and Martinis

July 27th, 2007

Il Bellagio at City Place

By Kirby Collins

West Palm Beach, FL - While visiting CityPlace last weekend, it was obvious brick oven pizzas and martinis without gin or vodka are all the rage, so being hip and all we asked around and locals told us “Il Bellagio” was the place, and we were not disappointed.

Il Bellagio Italian staff was excellent, our waiter Carlos was friendly and explained the menu very well without the snobby facial expressions you might expect when you mispronounce an item. The atmosphere is perfect with both inside and outside dining options, we’d been walking around all morning and chose inside where the air-conditioning was a welcome comfort.

We shared the “Pizza Pesto” and a “Insalata Parmigiana” along with a “Tropical Martini”, afterward we had an Italian Coffee. Everything was terrific and the prices were very reasonable. Il Bellagio is one place I look forward to visiting again.

Il Bellagio is located at 600 S. Rosemary Ave. Ste. 170 in CityPlace.

The Omelet Station; Unique Cocoa Beach Restaurant Still Breaks a Few Eggs

July 27th, 2007

By Kirby Collins

Cocoa Beach, FL - I found a new and totally unique Cocoa Beach restaurant aptly named “The Omelet Station” and they have best real egg Omelets I’ve had in a while.

I had the “Surf ‘N Seasoned” with shrimp, spinach and Jack cheese. Others in my party had the “Carnivore”, a meat lover’s delight and the “South of the Border” with jalapenos, Jack cheese, southwest black beans and topped with chili. Others had wraps, pancakes and sandwiches, everybody was happy.

The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and also features a buffet where they cook omelets to order. The service was really good and the staff was friendly.

The Omelet Station is located at 5590 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

A Good Dolphin Sandwich at Sebastian Beach Inn

White Ibis

By Kirby Collins

Melbourne Beach, FL - Sebastian Beach Inn is popular for its beachside location, great food and it’s Sunday Reggae Party. We recently stopped in and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Atlantic from their huge Sea Side Deck.

The seas were flat and the beach was nearly deserted. As we waited for our food, we had a couple drinks and enjoyed a flock of about 40 white ibis hunting for mole crabs along the shore break.

Capt. Hiram’s Resort; Get a Taste of Islandsphere

Sebastian, FL - Capt. Hiram’s Resort in Sebastian Florida is one of the coolest places in Florida. On the Indian River, it’s almost directly across from Sebastian Inlet. Hiram’s features an outside Sand Bar with a beach, live entertainment and a great view. There is also an inside dining area that you’d feel as comfortable wearing shorts and flip-flops as you would and suit and tie.

Their menu is diverse with the fare ranging from crab cakes to filet mignon. Recently, I had their dolphin sandwich, referred to as Maui Maui on the menu (we natives still call em dolphin) and it was terrific as usual.

z-capt-hirams-resort.jpgWhen I was living in Sebastian I thought every little seacoast town had a similar restaurant and yet as I travel throughout Florida, I have yet to find a place like Hiram’s.

Capt. Hiram’s Resort also features a full service hotel, a deep-water marina and banquet facilities.
