Cape Canaveral, FL – An Atlas 5 is set to launch the ICO G1 commercial satellite from SLC-41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Apr 14 with a launch window of 4:12 – 5:12 p.m. EDT. The satellite for ICO will deliver a next-generation multimedia service known as ICO mim™. ICO mim will combine interactive satellite capability with nationwide coverage to deliver a new level of interactive navigation, enhanced roadside assistance and the ultimate mobile video experience, with 10-15 channels of premium television content.

Kennedy Space Center, FL - Concluding the STS-123 mission with a smooth touchdown and heralded by its trademark twin sonic booms, Space Shuttle Endeavour landed at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 8:39 p.m. EDT. Space Shuttle Endeavour’s 16-day flight to the International Space Station delivered the first segment of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kibo laboratory and the Canadian Space Agency’s two-armed robotic system, known as Dextre. It was the 16th night landing at KSC.

Cocoa Beach, FL - Early Saturday morning on the south side of the Cocoa Beach Pier I photographed the Lost Beverage Men’s $5,000 Short Board Open and the Ron Jon Easter Bunny Skim Bash. It was early and the sun was low and shining right in my face but it was the only chance I had to get photos of the Cocoa Beach surfing and skim board contest.

Cocoa Beach, FL - Long Boarders, Short Boarders and even Skim Boarders will be going off Easter weekend at the Easter Surf Festival in Cocoa Beach. The event is one of the premier surf events on the Space Coast and is sponsored by Ron Jon and others. The 44th Consecutive year of the Easter Surf Festival has two primary venues. Events will take place at the Cocoa Beach Pier and to the south at Shepard Park, located at the east end of SR 520 in Cocoa Beach behind Ron Jon Surf Shop. More at www.eastersurffest.com

Cape Canaveral, FL – A Delta 2 is scheduled to launch a GPS IIR-19 satellite for the U.S. Air Force from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS). Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based radio-positioning system nominally consisting of a minimum of 24-satellite constellation that provides navigation and timing information to military and civilian users worldwide.

Kennedy Space Center, FL - Liftoff of space shuttle Endeavour on the STS-123 mission lights up Launch Pad 39A and the night sky. Liftoff was on time at 2:28 a.m. EDT. The crew will make a record-breaking 16-day mission to the International Space Station and deliver the first section of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kibo laboratory and the Canadian Space Agency’s two-armed robotic system, Dextre.

Kennedy Space Center, FL - All systems are “go” with the space shuttle that will fly the astronauts, a space station module and a robotics system to the International Space Station on March 11 at 2:28 a.m. Mission STS-123 on Space Shuttle Endeavour will deliver the Kibo Japanese Experiment Logistics Module - Pressurized Section (ELM-PS) on the twenty-fifth mission to the International Space Station.

The event takes place in Historic Cocoa Village and is hosted by the City of Cocoa & Cocoa Main Street.

Kennedy Space Center, FL - Space Shuttle Atlantis rolled to a stop on Runway 15 at Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida after a 9:07 a.m. EST touchdown that brings to a close mission STS-122.
The next mission, STS-123 scheduled for March 11, will see the delivery of the first section of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s new laboratory module, Kibo. Canada’s new robotics system, the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator, or Dextre, will also be delivered to the International Space Station.

Grant, FL - The 42nd Annual Grant Seafood Festival has become the largest and longest running seafood festival in the Southeast and draws huge crowd every year with as many as 50,000 people for this two day event.
This year’s festival will be held February 23 - 24, 2008 from 11 AM - 5 PM daily and features free admission, free parking, over 100 craft exhibits, continuous live entertainment, along with a menu of delicious seafood.

Cape Canaveral, FL - Scientific research will take on a new look aboard the International Space Station when the space shuttle Atlantis launches on the STS-122 mission. The mission, also known as assembly flight 1E, will deliver the newest research module to the orbiting complex, the European Space Agency’s Columbus laboratory.
The Columbus laboratory is the cornerstone of the European Space Agency’s contribution to the International Space Station (ISS) and is the first European laboratory dedicated to long-term research in space. Named after the famous explorer from Genoa, the Columbus laboratory will give an enormous boost to current European experiment facilities in weightlessness and to the research capabilities of the ISS once it becomes an integral part of the space station.

Kennedy Space Center, FL - On Friday, February 1, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., The Astronauts Memorial Foundation (AMF) will conduct a ceremony to honor the crew of Space Shuttle Columbia STS-107 on the 5th anniversary of the Columbia accident. The Astronauts Memorial Foundation honors and memorializes all astronauts who have sacrificed their lives for the nation and the space program. The ceremony will be held at the Space Mirror Memorial at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

While the Big Easy may be the official headquarters of all that is Mardi Gras, these parties are a somewhat tamer alternative and closer to home.
