By October the weather finally starts to cool, especially at night, it’s the perfect time for county fairs and festivals. One of the favorites is Oktoberfest, Florida loves Oktoberfest as much as Florida loves beer and great German food. All across Florida this Fourth of July there will be red rockets a glaring a bombs a bursting with fireworks displays everywhere. Floridians love celebrating Independence Day so much that fireworks dealers have used a loophole in the law where any farmer can buy fireworks to scare wildlife away from their crops. Christmas time in Florida is celebrated differently than our neighbors to the north. Since we don’t have snow, we have to be more creative and therefore tend to go overboard with light and holiday displays. We even have Christmas Boat Parades, where captains decorate their vessels with lights and everything from sleighs to small castles.

St. Augustine, FL - We recently traveled to St. Augustine to gather new content for PlacesAroundFlorida.com and took pictures galore. After an afternoon of wandering through the St. Augustine Historic District surrounded by many fine restaurants, we were starving.
We decided to try Scarlett O’Hare’s Bar and Restaurant. It was a great choice and with a unique decor and menu. We shared a Slab of Ribs and Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich, both were very tasty. For dessert we split a Key Lime Pie, it too was delicious.
They have a full liquor bar and we enjoyed cocktails named “The Scarlett O’Hare” in their “Ghost Bar”, which is listed in the National Directory of Haunted Places and is said to be haunted by the man who built the house. Visit their website at www.scarlettoharas.net.
