FAQs About Tampa Marriott Water Street

Overall great hotel and location. I was with 500 people for a corporate conference and only 4 out of the six elevators were working. One night we went from top floor and stopped at every single floor on way down. I would have hoped they would handled this better or had them fixed by end of week. Disappointing knowing that they knew we were a large group but couldn’t remedy this.
Let me start by saying I truly dislike the answer “I don’t know” when I ask a question of someone in the hospitality industry. And that was the go to answer of the entire staff at this hotel.
Next, if you or anyone in your party are disabled, I would strongly recommend not staying here. Your options for disabled parking are to pay the valet service $50 a night, or hope you can find a spot at one of the parking lots around the city and traverse the busy streets for a few blocks to get back to the hotel.
The resort fee is supposed to offer a myriad of options for services, but in reality none were available. Asking staff about this was pointless, none of them knew how it was supposed to work, even the front desk told us they didn’t know how it worked.
The rooms leave a lot to be desired. Beds are as stiff as the floor and there’s no way to warm up food in the room. You have to find the communal microwave by the vending machine on odd numbered floors. The view is nice, but that’s not what you stay for.
I will never stay here again. It’s overpriced, the staff are useless, and the rooms are worse than a Red Roof Inn. The building is very nice and well kept, but there are many better places in the area. This place is a disgrace to the Marriott brand.
For the price the room wasn’t worth it. The convenience of being within walking distance to the Amelia Arena and the balcony view was the only upside. The valet service was crazy.I knew going into it that it could take up to an hour to get my car. I even called the hotel to verify. So I called for my car an hour before check out. I still waited 3hrs for my car.
As someone who almost exclusively stays at Marriott hotels, I strongly suggest staying somewhere else while visiting Tampa. My family and I will personally never stay here again, nor recommend this hotel to anyone. Here is some feedback to consider:
Rooms: To anyone looking for the included room upgrade available with Marriott Gold status…look elsewhere. There were clearly room upgrades available during our stay (as confirmed on their website online..multiple bookable options for suites, balconies, etc..) however the front desk representative and manager did not provide these to us except after asking multiple times. The best we were offered was a “paid” upgrade (which is not typical with Gold status) for only part of our stay. While the front desk representative was trying her best to be helpful, ultimately management fell short of providing a satisfactory resolution or appropriate customer service.
Overall, not the level of customer service you would expect from a Marriott hotel.
Value: The JW next door is far superior yet only marginally higher priced. I would recommend you stay there instead.
Location: great, the hotel is situated in a convenient area with many activities nearby.
Parking: the only onsite parking available is valet which is $50/day. Otherwise, be prepared to find parking elsewhere and walk.
I have been staying at Marriott hotels for at least 20 years. This was a quick 2 night getaway but must say I was less than impressed. The bed was way to firm, room was uncomfortably warm, toilet kept bubbling. In addition I was taken by the noise inside and outside the room. Upon checkout no one even cared to ask about our stay. I usually love Marriott, but not this property especially for the price.
