Orkin

I called Orkin because after hurricane Milton, my husband and I developed gnats in the house. A tech from Orkin came out and took a look around. We told the tech that we did have a small water leak in the kitchen and one cabinet was ruined from water damage. We explained that we cut out the cabinet, dried everything out, and had the wall tested to make sure there was no water in the block wall. He told us that we had fungus gnats from the water damage which caused mold in the kitchen. We explained that we cleaned up the water and removed all damaged wood so I was confused on how we got mold in the kitchen so fast. He said he would spray but the gnats wouldn’t go away until we demoed the kitchen and got rid of the mold. He said he could smell mildew and mold and these types of conditions were not going to take care of the gnats until the kitchen was demoed. He asked my husband to cut two holes in our block wall from the kitchen leading to the back patio so he could spray in the wall to help kill the gnats until the kitchen was removed. A few weeks later we had a construction company come out to demo the kitchen which we couldn’t afford but what choice did we have. After the kitchen was demoed I asked the construction workers to show me the cabinets because Orkin stated we had mold. We went outside to look at the cabinets and the worker stated there was no mold on any cabinets he removed. I told him Orkin stated mold was also on the wall and that I needed to bleach it before Orkin would come back out to spray. We walked into the kitchen to check all of the walls and again there was no mold. The next day I called another pest control company to come access the gnat issue. They stated they were drain flies and said a plumber would need to come and flush the lines. The plumber came out, flushed the lines, the new pest control company came out and sprayed the house and foamed all of our drains. They did state it would take about three weeks for the drain flies to start dying. As of now, we have about 60% less drain flies. Not only did Orkin cause us to remodel our kitchen that cost us $23,000 in combination of credit card debt and cleaning out our life savings that we couldn’t afford, we now have two holes in our block wall my husband had to fix, and on top of that, because of the kitchen remodel, we now need new floors in the house because of all of the tile the construction crew had to take out to install the new kitchen. Orkin did offer to reimburse me for my initial payment and one monthly payment of around $280. Which til this day we still haven’t received. I will never use Orkin again and pray to god that this large mistake they made doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Reply to the owner: in my review above, I stated I didn’t have mold. Your tech told me we had mold and to demo the kitchen. He explained this is why we had fungus gnats. Our home never had mold and wouldn’t have demolished our kitchen if the Orkin rep didn’t tell us that we did in fact have mold. Your tech gave us inaccurate information and that is why we are in the position we are in now when the gnats we had were drain flies.

I always seem to have a pleasant service experience when the person assisting me name happens to be some variation of Frank. However, today I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing excellent customer service from Mr. Frankie. He was very knowledgeable and extremely patient with my questions. In a world where a number of people do their job with an attitude, Mr. Frankie does his job with a grace and humility that reassured me Orkin was the best choice for my home! Frankie‘s positive attitude, kind nature, and genuine desire to connect with customers and provide a high level of satisfaction are evident in everything that he does. If I owned my own company, I would hire Frankie for any front facing customer role because he is the true definition of a positive first impression. Thank you Frankie. Thank you Orkin.

Frank was super helpful, and the people I talked to on the phone even gave me important and helpful info. He came out about a week ago for the initial process, and so far, so good! They are also very accommodating and offered to come by whenever we need help. Worth the money for sure!
