Dr. Collen is a Moffitt VA Community Care Referral for endocrinology/cancer. She has a fantastic team, including Sarah Logan. My first clinical meeting with Sarah ended with hospitalization and a ruptured appendix.

Sarah was an advocate when I didn’t know I needed an advocate.

My appendix was busting in the hospital at my appointment. Besides a low-grade fever and mild stomach pain, I felt okay.
But, my temperature was increasing, and she was reluctant to release me after our appointment. She convinced me to go to the outpatient urgent care clinic to seek further investigation of the mild stomach pain.
I was reluctant to wait due to other commitments.
As I was about to leave, she popped her head into the waiting room and said, “Brenda, you’re next.”
After the MRI, my appendix burst in real-time, and it hurt.
My family was called and told I would have emergency surgery as soon as a room opened.

The experience was surreal.

After I was discharged from the hospital, my family and I wanted to thank Sarah for advocating for me, but we had one problem. I didn’t remember meeting her or anyone who assisted me that day because of anesthesia.

I only recognized her voice.

She is the sweetest person ever! Thank you so much!
