Unethical and exploitative – stay far away from Tommy’s Towing
I’ve been a Tampa native my whole life, and unfortunately, I’ve had to deal with Tommy’s Towing on five separate occasions, all due to accidents. Despite many other reputable towing companies in the area, Tampa Police and Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department always call Tommy’s, which feels like some sort of monopoly. It’s baffling, especially considering their awful reputation.
Tommy’s Towing seems to make money by taking advantage of people when they’re already in stressful situations, not by genuinely helping them. They only accept cash, which raises red flags, and their staff is consistently rude. When you try to retrieve your car, they close whenever they feel like it, even during posted business hours, forcing you to pay for another day of storage. It’s like they’re deliberately making the process harder just to squeeze more money out of you.
What’s worse, a friend of mine recently dealt with them after a terrible accident. As he was trying to navigate through this already costly and emotionally exhausting ordeal, an employee named Monique started rattling off aggressive and excessive charges. When my friend said the fees seemed unfair and excessive, instead of being professional or sympathetic, she snapped back, “Well, I’m not the one who crashed my car! It’s not my fault.” This is not just unprofessional—it’s mean-spirited.
Tommy’s Towing deals with people who have often just been through traumatic accidents, sometimes involving injuries or even fatalities. Instead of showing any understanding, they treat their customers like suckers to be exploited.
Something needs to be done about this business, and I can’t help but question why local authorities keep using them. Avoid Tommy’s at all costs.
I called them and make an appointment. They told me the driver is coming in a few minutes, after 2 hours, didn’t come. I called them and waited again, didn’t come the driver to tow my car. I had to call back again, then i was told the tow truck “broke down”. She told me she would ask another tow truck driver and call me back in a few minutes. never called me back.

This place ia a joke. If the police officer to tow DONT LET THEY TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. I was in an accident vehicle was towed i called to verify and a complete trashbag answered the phone. She stated they were closed it was after hours i asked WHY would the tow person tell me to call she went OFFFFF on me telling me i told you yesterday. Like what the hell kind of service is this no apologize nothing !!! Instead the mother trucker ignored ALLLLL of my calls til the next day and said “im not arguing with you”
I was involved in an accident on 6/2/2024 in Tampa Florida, and my vehicle was towed by a company named Tommy’s Towing. The accident occurred at Busch Blvd and Nebraska Avenue, their location is located on Nebraska Ave and Hollywood St approximately 0.9 miles. The driver told me I could come get my belongings in the morning because the business is closed. So in the morning I went and got my belongings. I was told that I had 2 options, 1. Keep my vehicle and pay the whole Towing fee which came to nearly $400.00 (mind you this is the very next day). Option 2 was sign my title over to them and pay $190.00. I agreed with Option 2 because the car was severely damaged. So, I came back today which is the 4th with $210.00 dollars and my title. I paid them the money and gave them the title and they gave me a receipt. Here’s the kicker, I looked at the receipt and it had a totally different vehicle on the receipt and the Vin number was unlegible. I said I can’t accept this receipt because I have no proof that I paid you if you deny that I paid you. This is when the individual got upset and said “Hey my driver is Hispanic and can’t read or write English well, OK. I looked at her like she was crazy and said “what does that have to do with me?”. So I said forget it give me back my title and my money. So she throws my title at me and says “we’re putting a lien on your license. All because I wanted a properly written receipt that showed that I paid. For the life of me I don’t know why this company would not just correct the problem, I mean dude it’s a receipt, I don’t see what the big deal is. Just tear that one up and write out another one, take the $210.00 and the title and I’m gone, simple.
