I was thoroughly impressed with my first visit to babushka, the food was wonderful and the service was impeccable.
The size of the menu wasn’t so overwhelming, and each dish was thoroughly described, and it was very difficult to pick just one.
From appetizer through dessert, I couldn’t have found myself eating at a better restaurant this evening.
I will most definitely be returning in the near future.
Between the service and the food, I had a very positive experience here!
My group of four was treated warmly by our server and our food came out in a timely manner. I don’t know very much about Russian cuisine but was very excited to try the traditional dishes that were present! I was not disappointed at all! The Borscht was delicious, the dumplings were well seasoned and very satisfying and the sampler board as the app was delightful.
The ambiance was also beautiful! It’s a cozy place with a bright and airy feel thanks to the natural light, plants, and pillows.
I will definitely be returning here!
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a few years and finally made it! We were lucky to snag a table around 5:30 on a Sunday evening. By 6 the place was packed, and mostly reservations only. Since it was my first time I wanted to try everything! I started with the mushroom soup. It was savory and delicious. I then got some of the dumplings, which were not as I expected, but very tasty. The kind I got were like little button dumplings. About the size of a quarter, and filled with pork and beef. They were served with sour cream, which actually suited them very well. For my entree I had the lamb kabob. It was good, though a little overcooked for my liking. The new potatoes that came with it were perfection, and I could have been happy with just those. The dill sauce on the plate made everything even more delicious, and I also liked the little slaw on the side. I brought half the lamb and a good portion of the dumplings home, and was completely full when we left. Some of my friends ordered the larger soup-filled dumplings, so I got to try those as well. They were delicious! I also enjoyed a couple bites of their sampler platter that included stuffed cabbage, chicken kiev, beef stroganoff and a lamb dish. Their mashed potatoes had no seasoning, but everything else I tried was delicious. I look forward to returning and trying more items from the menu!
The prices were higher than expected, especially considering the portion sizes. The kebab were a letdown—they were too dry and didn’t have the fat that makes them juicy. The Solyanka soup was mostly water with just a little meat, which was disappointing. To top it off, the service wasn’t great at first—the waiter completely ignored us, and we waited about 20 minutes just for a menu. However, the Khachapuri and Khinkali were absolutely delicious, which made up for some of the other issues. Despite a rough start and a few underwhelming dishes, the good ones made the experience worthwhile.
My wife had been here before with a friend so she wanted me to try it. Definitely a different food experience which can be a nice change of pace. My primary reason for leaving a review though was the service. Antoine was just phenomenal. His customer service and kindness are so refreshing! Not to mention, you can tell that he has genuine pride in the food and his country. As for the food, I was very impressed with the amount of meat I received in my Chicken Shashlyk order. It was juicy and fresh. Now, be aware that the mash potatoes will not be as tasty or creamy as the American version. Otherwise, the restaurant vibe/decor is very welcoming. This restaurant is worth a stop.
