I enjoyed Camp Tampa while I was a member there. My membership ended several months ago, yet they continue to bill me each month. When I email the (typically very responsive) support email each month following the charge to ask why I’m still getting charged after they confirmed that my membership has ended, I receive no response. It’s a huge annoyance to have to dispute this charge month after month.
All to say – instructors/classes here are awesome, but if you join as a member and end your membership according to the terms of the agreement, you may be PERPETUALLY billed. I wonder if anyone else is going through the same experience.
I enjoy coming to CAMP!! I did not think I would find a place to work out that was up to par with my previous gym in MT. By far this is the past it has 5 studios in one that offer yoga, yoga sculpt, mat pilates, stations, circuit, and cycling. The staff are involved and motivating which I need to stay on this path of a me. I also enjoy working with different people who are also motivating. The prices are great and affordable!!
Loved this place upon my first class I took.I am yet to come across an instructor where I wasn’t obsessed with taking their class. The communication regarding memberships/questions could be vastly improved as it is very hard to get a response from them and everything must happen via email and just about impossible to get anyone to answer questions and the staff don’t know logistics, just class times. I asked multiple staff members what happy camper club was and no one knew. And since I can’t get a response via email it’s disappointing to say the least.. definitely worth a try.. not an unlimited membership.
I joined in 2018 as I was looking for a “cardio” style gym. Camp Tampa only offers classes. There are no separate weights or machines to simply go work out. Very active otherwise, and my condo having weights, “Camp” served well my desire to supplement with additional cardio 1-2X a week. I always purchased the “block” of classes during their 2x a year specials, typically about $12 a class (buying 20 or 30). I also frequently purchased the 10 pack “off peak” classes, those at $10 apiece.
Shocking and insane how expensive (and greedy) they got. A monthly rate with bells and whistles now comes to around $3,100 a year; $2,500 if only whistles. That’s a vacation for crying out loud, including extra desserts. Block glasses are now $23 per for a pack of 30, $25 for 20 (a tad less during sales).
When they eliminated the “off peak” classes a couple of years ago I sensed doom.
Instructors are generally very good, and the classes, studios, and grounds are nice, as is the app to schedule (though parking can be a nightmare). But meaningless if astronomical fees. I’m not paying +$200 monthly, nor a lot for a block. Belonging to various gyms for decades (almost all have folded), spending around $40-$75 a month is reasonable. Paying almost half the cost of my first mortgage is not.
Crazy that folks are paying those absurd prices for a gym. Buy a nice pair of sneakers and jog on Bayshore 🙂 But it’s their money.
I emailed Camp of the extreme price increases. Got a weird, dismissive, and snarky reply from the smug GM. (Think: “Let them eat cake!”) He apparently skipped the “customer relations” class in business school.
If affordable I’d give 5 stars. But the looney prices drop its rating.
I used up my block classes and will join a popular yoga studio where can buy a block that comes to $11 per, and have money leftover for stuff…like a cruise.
5 starssss- this place is AMAZING! Class offers, solid coaches, awesome facilities, darn near every fitness modality, and a million class times. It is a NO-BRAINER to go to Camp if you are visiting Tampa/ live here and want a solid community.
