Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers

I had my brakes replaced at Express Oil in October 2023. Shortly after the service, I experienced a grinding noise and a vibration when braking. I returned the vehicle twice for these issues. Due to working from home, I drove minimally between October 2023 and November 2024. Subsequently, two independent service centers inspected my car and determined that the front brakes required replacement again, despite being driven less than 40,000 miles since the initial service. Express Oil refused to acknowledge their error or offer a reasonable resolution. I am extremely disappointed with their service and would not recommend them.

I’ve been buying tires, oil changes and other services from this shop for several years. Every time — and let me emphasize EVERY time — I’ve been greeted by a service tech or manager who came to my car before I had even gotten out to welcome me and ask what I came in for.
I grew up in Detroit, my dad was an automotive engineer and with five kids in the family we were always fixing cars. In those days, clutches, water pumps, exhaust systems, wheel bearings, distributor advance and ignition timing, etc., were generally within the reach of shade tree mechanics. Not so these days, because all that stuff works for 75,000 plus miles as a general rule. But when something does need to be worked on, you better have a real ‘professionall’ — a certified, experienced technician–diagnose and then fix the problem.
I just had all four rotors and pads, and two rear calipers replaced. With 70K miles on the rear brakes and 40K miles on the second set of front brakes, I knew I needed work.
But after I asked for all wheels, rotors, pads, 2 calipers, and a flush, the manager told me I could wait on the front brakes for perhaps another 3-5 thousand miles. I told them to give it the full spa treatment, all wheels, all rotors.
The price was less than I expected and what is more, they gave me the first lift in the morning and had the work done within 3 hours.
Brakes are tip top now–if you’ve had brakes done before you may have experienced a little sqeaking, a little pulling to one side or another, etc. Nothing like that here, and the manager told me that his technicians take the car out and ‘bed in’ the brakes in the specified manner by driving the car and executing several stops.

That says two things: (1) these guys know what they’re doing and do it right from start (diagnoses/recommendations) to finish (bedding in the pads); and (2) even if you don’t know what they’re doing or how they do it, that’s OK–you’re gonna leave with the work done right, on time, and at a more than fair price.

And, hey, I worked in gas stations and as a sheet metal worker/welder in college. I know what a clean and well organized shop looks like–this shop is A+ in that regard.

Given the length of this review, you may think I’m a shill, or related to somebody at the shop. I’m not. If you contact this shop and ask them for my cell and they give it to you, give me a call. I can tell you horror stories — I mean HORROR stories — about my experience with the Mazda dealer I got the car from (Kuhn) and another Mazda dealer that I’ll not name in Tampa that did an oil change on my Mazda and never put oil in the car!
