Beautiful natural path. Saw a gator, fish, and wading birds. Heard an owl. The roots along the trail WILL come for your ankles.
If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth taking this trail. You have a good chance of seeing them all; gators, turtles, and many birds. It’s a well-maintained trail with various loops, waterways, and different types of vegetation. The location is situated between the highway and inhabited areas, which doesn’t give the feeling of being deep in nature, but it’s not disturbing.
This is one of my favorite trails in central Florida. We park behind the hunters creek middle school (only accessible when school is not in session). We enter on the far right section, cross the bridge, and go right. Once you leave the wooded area you make a left and continue down until you reach the trail entrance. As of early February the area had a controlled fire and the tall grasses that normally make it hard to walk we’re not there. It’s a really pretty loop. It was really cool to see how everything looked after the fires. We did not see a lot of animals but it was very peaceful.
Hiked 11/24/2023. Some parts under humming high power lines. East quarter mile of East Pine Island loop swampy from rains a couple weeks ago. Lots of birds. Nice picnic area.
Like the other reviews have said the location is wrong at the moment. But if you park along Tarragona you can comfortably walk to the start of the trails. I have gone twice now, both times I’ve seen wildlife and many beautiful plants. I did encounter rude cyclists this time. They would pass you and not say anything like “on your left”. So you have to scramble to move or risk being hit. A good mile is in direct sun but once you make it to the bridge there are tons of trees. If you take the path to the right. I have not taken the path straight ahead as you enter the trail. The only trash can I saw was at the very start on Tarragona street, so keep that in mind if you bring your dogs.
