Great library, 4 floors of reference, resources, and Tampa history. The staff is hit or miss. One lady was very nice, but could not find what I was looking for (which was verified to be in library). One of the lady’s at the front desk of the main (1st floor) entry asked me in a rude manner “may I help you”. She seemed to mistakenly think she had some sort of authority over those who walk through the door. Lastly, beware of the elevator….it smells
I will try to avoid this library at all cost. First came in it went smooth. Went up to the second floor, things went little crazy. Got told which computer to use as a guest. Then went to the computer, it wasn’t working and had to go in the far back to utilize the computer. I also saw there are no food and drink at the computer. I’m like ok, then I’ll eat at one of the tables to enjoy my food. I see these 2 ladies just looking at me eating at the desk, then 1 approaches to me saying “excuse me there’s no eating here, but we allow dry food”. I technically was eating dry food but a salad and I was almost about done and got told to go and eat outside. I will be avoiding this library at all cost and glad that I just got a guest past and not a library card from this library. Be aware of this library of your just trying to lay low but also, trying to be respectful.
My husband , Sudhir suchak, wanted to borrow a book with an expired card. All taken care of so fast. He was soooo happy with the service

I love the library! The main library staff is always friendly and helpful, and it’s a really nice place especially with all the renovations going on.
Life hack: the library has a room immediately to your left when you enter that has books for sale for 50cents up to $2. It is cash-only, honor system where you put the cash in a Dropbox as you leave. They have fiction novels, nonfiction, language, self help, cook books, old CDs and magazines (Vogue).
