First off, there are not any actual menus. There is a notepad of slips that you choose your items from and give to the server. Tacos are a good size (larger than street tacos). Their flavors were perfect. Each one had their own unique taste. Get the Margarita Flight!! The servers were on it. Briana and Paris were fantastic!! They read the table very well and made sure everything was refilled before it was empty. They offered suggestions and answered all of our questions. The atmosphere was a home type vibe, and everyone working was helpful and cordial. They haven’t been open long, but they have a great crowd that’s worth every cent of the visit.
At first glance, the place looked really cool, and we were excited to eat there. My wife ordered a purple drink that tasted like flowers, and she loved it. Our waitress was friendly and polite.
We started with a brunch nacho dish, but it was completely inedible—the chips were soggy and wet. When we mentioned it to the waitress, she agreed but explained that’s just how they made them. The chips were so soft they bent when picked up.
My wife ordered a brunch dish with grits, which she said was just okay, but she only ate about 10% before pushing it aside. She took one bite of her taco and was done.
I ordered four of their house-made specialty tacos, thinking I’d try the flavors their cook considered signature dishes. That turned out to be a huge mistake. After taking one bite of the first taco, I moved on to the second, then the third—each was worse than the last. I couldn’t even bring myself to try the fourth.
This has been on the list to check out. The inside looks very cute, although the seating gives it more of a cafeteria vibe. We tried the margaritas, if you are brave and like spicy margs, the Freaky Tiki is worth trying. The Tres Amigos chips and salsa came with a refill on the chips which was a nice touch as the salsa / guacamole / queso servings were generous. We tried the Build Your Own bowl option, and the tacos. Tacos came out cold, the bowl was 60% rice. Food was still ok though, and prices are low, the bowl was only $9.50.
Heads up though, if you are looking for a date spot in Ybor this may not be the place, the music is quite loud, and the vibes are better suited for hanging out with friends!
This restaurant is fantastic. They opened in the iconic La Tropicana location in Ybor and they did a fantastic job of keeping the architecture while tastefully dressing up with some local flair. The food was fantastic. The service was great. Best Guacamole I’ve had in a long time plus the tacos are fantastic. Will be back for sure.
Come for happy hour for sure. 1/2 price tequila and dollar off tacos. Staff was very friendly and accommodating to me as a first timer. Somebody said this taco wasn’t good but let me set the record straight. You can get a taco any way you want thanks to the build you own checklist and what we ordered was the bomb dot com.
