Cute unique and elevated cocktail menu. Highly recommend the Mai Tai and Sinister Kid (yes, they do have more than absinthe cocktails, actually have 7 rum cocktails), and fresh food. The price of the food is on the higher, and portions are smaller in size but taste was superb.
Death in the afternoon is a great upscale but casual bar that offers some delicious drinks and good bites. They have a full bar but specialize in absinthe based cocktails. The drink menu is multiple pages but is really cute and it’s broken down into sections like: absinthe based drinks, vodka, gin, whiskey, etc. I have been multiple times and really enjoy the Absinthe Suissesse, saint tropaz spritz, and espresso martini (very very good).
They offer happy hour cocktails and food from 5-7 on weekdays and the drinks are more simple but reallly good!
On weekday nights I’ve been and walked in just fine but Fridays and weekends tend to get really busy. So there’s a chance that without a reservation you won’t make it in. It’s a relatively small space. I had pretty decent service, a little bit slower of a pace than usual but it’s a great atmosphere and experience. Live laugh love Death in the Afternoon!!
Death in the Afternoon was a Pleasant Time in the Evening for me. The atmosphere was perfect and great music, the service was nice, and the drinks were fruity and the gnocchi was incredible. I also had a few complaints other than the obvious prices but if it’s in the mills you have to be an oil baron to enjoy it regardless. First there was no escargot that evening, and I was wildly deceived by the “creamy cheese dip with bread” as I was expecting a creamy queso with cut slightly toasted pieces of baguette slices. So when I instead got was complete crispy bread crackers from a bag and some cream cheese with chopped white unknown on top to scrape off I was wildly disappointed. Lastly was the seating situation. For a table of 5 they put us in the booth. Maybe the host was living in a Shallow Hal universe where 3 grown men where instead 3 petite skeletons auditioning to be Glinda in Wicked across the street, but it was a very tight fit for us in one row clearly meant for 2 people.
Overall, I will come again, but this time I’ll make sure to be a party of 4 and do NOT get the “creamy dip”. You get a nice postcard in the end too!
“Death In The Afternoon” is a slice of a bygone era! The dimmed lighting of this cozy room with its tin ceiling and chandeliers is evocative of sometime in the early 20th century.
The mood created perfectly fits the classic cocktail menu, executed impeccably. Of course, they are adept at crafting off menu requests as well! The Tom Collins, Lemon Drop and Old Fashioned were all terrific!
Now to the food! The Chorizo burger was unlike anything I’d ever had, simply out of this world and the fries were sizzling, crispy and meaty at the same time! We cannot wait to return!
This is one of the top craft cocktail bars in Orlando. Great service, cocktails and quiet atmosphere. Their tapas style menu is also very good. Few other bartenders can match these guys’ knowledge and experience. Totally recommended. Great job guys!
