A beach lover and birders dream. The fort itself was pretty cool, a lil’bit spooky and the artillery is hard to even imagine operating, but the grounds are beautiful and being preserved. I think we saw at least 10 different species of birds and there’s plenty of picnic tables and public restrooms and even barbecue grills out there. You can’t beat the parking, there’s tons of it and six bucks for the day, dawn to dusk so it’s a pretty awesome beach.
Great campground albeit hard to get a reservation if you’re out of state. Great access to biking, kayaking and canoeing. Beaches in the park and great views of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge at sunrise. Rangers are friendly and helpful. Campsites can be tight but many have water views. Glad they’ve reopened after the Fall 2024 hurricanes. Easy access to St. Pete Beach, Pass-A-Grille and downtown St. Petersburg. Good biking in all directions.

I visited yesterday, to do some biking and to sit by the ocean.
I was not disappointed it was gorgeous.
The bike path is great. Pretty smooth and not very crowded yet.
North Beach was closed so the ride was a bit shorter than I had hoped. I ended up going thru the campground, exited the park and biked on the road.
A great place for families as well.
