Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive is a great place to experience Florida’s natural beauty at a relaxed pace. The 11-mile, one-way road winds through wetlands, offering plenty of opportunities to see wildlife up close.
There were so many birds—herons, egrets, ospreys, and more. If you’re into birdwatching, this is a fantastic spot. The alligators were also a highlight—some basking on the banks, others partially hidden in the water. It’s amazing to see them in their natural habitat.
The drive itself is easy to navigate, with pull-off areas where you can stop, take pictures, and just enjoy the scenery. The whole experience was really peaceful.
Visited on 3/9/2025 around noon—this place exceeded expectations! We saw an incredible variety of wildlife, including 94 alligators of all sizes. The drive was amazing, with water on both sides and gators lounging just feet away. It was crowded, so expect to move at 2-4 mph; our visit took over 2 hours, which is worth considering if bringing kids. There are multiple stopping points, two areas with porta-potties, and best of all—it’s free with no wait to enter. Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing! We had to tally how many alligators we saw! (114). But you see much different wildlife/birds! It’s free. We got in a little after 2 and had plenty of time to just go slow and enjoy the view!
We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the alligators on this route. Great for the family. Able to see so much wild life from the safety and comfort of your car. Super easy to access and get through the paths while stopping along the way.
This place was AWESOME!
It was so cool to get to see the real Florida at this wildlife reserve. We saw countless alligators, birds of all kinds, turtles (you had to look at little closer), and even fish! Huge fish!
Our kids loved it (3, 18mo) and we loved it too. Great place to spend an afternoon.
